Why Cleveland carpet gets so dirty
Mostly, it's the winters. From November to March everybody tracks in slush, sand and road salt. The salt dries into a white crust by the front door and keeps pulling moisture back into the carpet long after the snow's gone.
Add dogs, kids, a finished basement that never quite dries out in August, and the stairs in an old Lakewood double, and you get carpet that looks gray no matter how much you vacuum. A vacuum gets what's on top. The gray is down by the backing.
That's what hot water extraction is for, and it's most of what we do here at Forest City Carpet Cleaning. We push heated water and a cleaning rinse down into the pile and pull it right back out with far more suction than a rental machine. The dirt leaves with it, and so does the soap, so it doesn't look dirty again two weeks later.

What it costs
Everybody wants a number before they call, which is fair. These are the ranges we see for most Cleveland homes this year.
Text us a few photos and we can usually give you an exact price before we come out. If anything changes once we see it, you hear about it before we start, not after.

How a visit goes
- You call or text. Tell us the rooms and anything we should know about, like a dog, a red wine spot or a basement that flooded last spring.
- You get a price, before we come out.
- We clean. We move the chairs and small stuff, pre-treat the spots and traffic lanes, then extract and groom. A typical house takes two to three hours.
- It dries, usually in four to eight hours. Socks are fine right away. Shoes and pets can wait.
Questions we get every week
How long does it take to dry?
Four to eight hours for most carpet. Thick carpet and muggy July days take longer. Running the AC or a fan speeds it up.
Will the pet smell come out?
Usually. If a dog has been using the same corner for years, the urine is in the pad and maybe the subfloor. We'll treat it, and we'll tell you if that piece of pad needs replacing instead.
Is steam cleaning bad for carpet?
No. Carpet makers recommend hot water extraction, and most warranties require it every 12 to 18 months. What hurts carpet is soap left behind, which is why we rinse.
Do you move furniture?
Chairs, tables and the small stuff, yes. Beds, dressers and the entertainment center we clean around.
